Urban Meyer: I’m not a candidate for Notre Dame

ESPN earlier reported on Tuesday that Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer has no interest in returning to college coaching.
Meyer has now admitted as much.
Meyer discussed the possibility of heading to Notre Dame after Brian Kelly’s departure to become the head coach at LSU on a conference call with the Los Angeles media before of the Jaguars’ game against the Rams this week.

Meyer told Greg Beacham of the Associated Press, “I’m not a candidate.” “Obviously, I spent six years of my life there, so I have a lot of regard for Notre Dame, as well as USC and UCLA, as we discussed.” But I’m dedicated to the Jaguars and doing all I can to help them turn things around.”

Before assuming his first head coaching job at Bowling Green, Meyer was the receivers coach at Notre Dame from 1996 to 2000.

Meyer is now having conference calls with opposing media, which is remarkable in several respects. He wasn’t performing them earlier in the season, which was brought up when Denver’s reporters asked for them in September.

In Meyer’s first season as head coach, the Jaguars are presently 2-9.
