Ghana has a strong team to win the AFCON’ – Kurt Okraku

Kurt Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), feels the Black Stars have the talent to win their sixth Africa Cup of Nations AFCON.

Ghana will be seeking to end a lengthy wait to win an AFCON championship for the first time since 1982. The last time the Black Stars played in the continental final was in 2015, when they fell to Ivory Coast on penalties.

“We have qualified for the AFCON (2021),” Okraku stated during the Executive Council’s news conference in Kumasi. “People assume it is a given, but it has come through hard effort, and we will soon be in Cameroon to strive to rewrite history.”

“It’s been 40 years or so since Ghana has won the AFCON, but I feel we have a squad of super-dedicated players who want to make history and battle for Ghana’s glory and dignity at the AFCON.”

The Black Stars will compete in Group C of the event, which begins on January 9th. In the group round of the competition, Ghana will face Morocco first, followed by Gabon and Comoros.
